This is the kind of stuff I like to see, real people getting out and telling the real stories (as we discussed yesterday this is very rare and hard to come by). However, what concerns me the most about this article is the amount that these small organizations are struggling. The real question we need to ask here is will these important media sources still exist in the next few months or years, and what can the people (and maybe possibly the government) do to help?
I for one think that we should take the perspective of Mr. Wolley that "Information is now a public service as much as it’s a commodity, it should be thought of the same way as education, health care. It’s one of the things you need to operate a civil society, and the market isn’t doing it verywell.” If we look at it like this an value information then maybe we can get more people in the public sector to read sources like this, which will hopefully eventually lead to more advertising in these venues and their ultimate survival.
