Stepping Back

We've buried ourselves, for good reasons, in lots of micro-level analysis. But there is, to state what should be obvious, a much larger narrative here. Here's one take:

Although I do agree with the point being made by Mr. Williams, I think that there are 2 points worth making about the crowd itself, which is shown in all its glory in this video:
1)It seems remarkable to me that Mr. Obama has been able to capture so many people around the nation. However, I think we must proceed with caution, because anytime any political figure can gain such widespread support (and even within the government where the democrats gained seats in the house and senate) we must be wary of the fact that the checks and balances system was put practice for a reason, and that anyone (black, white, yellow, green, blue) with such widespread support can be dangerous.

2) The diversity of the crowd is just astonishing. I can't remember another time in my very short lifetime that so many people, from all different colors, ages and sizes came together for anything that is actually important. I have only seen people screaming in the streets in celebration after a big sports win, and people yelling in such large crowds at a concert or entertainment venue.
